Audio Plus 3200 Plug aNd Play Q&A

Table of contents

I have a Zoltrix Audio Plus 3200 PnP sound card which is causing conflicts with several other cards already installed in my desktop. How do I change the settings to values that will not conflict?

First off, the card must be in PnP mode to operate in Win95.

You may need to use the APINIT program to change the priority of usage of the IRQ's and/or addresses. To do this you must run the APINIT program from DOS mode.

Changing the settings of the Audio Plus 3200

  1. When starting your computer press F8 when Starting Win95 appears.
  2. Select Command Prompt only.
  3. Change to the correct dound card directory
  4. Run APINIT
  5. Using the APINIT menu, you can change the priority of the resources used for each device. If you know a particular resouce is being used by another device in your system, make sure that you select another setting with the APINIT program.
  6. Make sure to select "Save setting & exit" when done.
  7. Turn off the computer and then restart it.
Determining what resources are being used by your system

Make sure the sound card is not installed in the system when performing the following directions.

  1. Start the Control Panel.
  2. Click on System.
  3. Click on the Device Manager tab.
  4. Double Click on Computer.
  5. Make sure that the View Resources tab is checked.
  6. You can now view the IRQ's used in the system. Write down any IRQ not being used.
  7. Click on the Input/Output field.
  8. You can now view the addresses used in the system. Make sure that the addresses used by the sound card are not listed. If they are, you will need to change the sound card address(es).
  9. Click on Direct memory access (DMA)
  10. You can now view the DMA channels used by the system. Make sure that the DMA channels used by the sound card are not listed. If they are, you will need to change the sound cards DMA channels.

How do I install a new 3200 PnP driver after previously installing an older driver?

If you are having conflicts in your system and decided to install the driver made for non PnP motherboards or you need to install another version of the 3200 PnP software and want to start from a clean system, you need to remove the references to the sound card first.

Use the following procedure to remove all references to the Zoltrix Audio Plus 6400 PnP from Win95:

  1. Remove all drivers under Sound, Video and game controllers
  2. Remove the APINIT & APMIX statements from your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  3. Delete the file ADCSET.INF from the Windows\Inf directory.
You should now be able to restart Win95 without the drivers being installed automatically. Instead you will be prompted to insert the driver diskette. You can now use the non PnP BIOS version or a updated version of the software drivers.

How do I control the recording volume and select the recording source with the Win95 mixer?

You cannot control the input volume on the Audio Plus 3200 for the microphone or the line-in.

To adjust the input source, use the following steps:

  1. Start the Win95 mixer (Volume Control).
  2. Click on the options pull down menu.
  3. Click on Properties.
  4. Click on Recording to check it off.
  5. On the bottom of the window make sure that a check mark is next to all the volume controls.
  6. Click on the OK button.
  7. Select the recording source by checking it off.

How do I stop the microphone from feeding threw the speakers?

The 3200PnP V.1 and V.2 cannot turn off the microphone monitor function. You must turn off (mute) the mic with the playback mixer (volume control) or use a microphone with a on off switch to turn off the microphone.

How do I get sound to work in DOS games?

To get sound with the Audio Plus PnP Series using DOS games you should verify the following:

  1. Ensure that the APINIT program is being loaded in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  2. You must also ensure that the volume levels are raised using the DOS mixer program (APMIX.COM).
  3. Set the game's sound card selection to Sound Blaster, Sound Blaster Pro or SB16.
  4. Note: If SB16 fails try Sound Blaster Pro, if it fails try Sound Blaster.
If you are running in DOS mode:
  1. Ensure that the DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT file also contains the APINIT statement.
  2. Note: If in Win95, the DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT file will be named AUTOEXEC.DOS.
Some DOS games also require that the Set Blaster statement is added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT (AUTOEXEC.DOS).

Following is the syntax to the statement:

SET BLASTER=A2x0 Iy Dz T4 x = 2 or 4 (This is the address number) y = 5 or 7 or 9 or 10 (This is the IRQ number) z = 0 or 1 or 3 (This is the DMA number)

Example:

If your settings are address 220, IRQ 5, DMA 1, add the following to your AUTOEXEC.BAT (AUTOEXEC.DOS):

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4

Why do I receive "CAN'T FIND RIGHT PnP HEADER FROM EPROM" after the APINIT statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT.. with my Audio Plus 3200 PnP?

The BIOS code on the eprom of the sound card may be corrupted. Running the C9SETROM program will reload the code.

Following is the procedure to install the BIOS code into the sound card.

  1. Turn the computer off.
  2. Remove the sound card from the computer.
  3. Remove jumper on JP2 (disable PnP).
  4. Insert the sound card into the slot.
  5. Turn the computer back on.
  6. Boot DOS or enter DOS mode in Win95
  7. Execute C9SETROM.EXE in the Win95 driver disk to update the eprom on the sound card.
  8. Turn the computer off.
  9. Remove the sound card from the computer.
  10. Put jumper on JP2 (enable PnP).
  11. Insert the sound card into the slot.
  12. Turn the computer back on and check for the error message.

When I use a MS sidewinder joystick or the Gravis GRiP and Gravis gamepad with the Audio Plus 3200 PnP, the system will not recognize the joystick or gamepad, what's the problem?

If you plug in the joystick before Windows 95 start, the Audio Plus 6400 PnP V.1 & V.2 and the Audio Plus 3200 PnP will fail.

This is due to the fact that the MS joystick uses all four buttons (for two joysticks) of the joystick port and the AP6400 uses the secondary joystick's button for the EEPROM (the one storing PnP code). Threfore, if the joystick is pluged in before Windows 95 is booted completely, Windows will be unable to read the PnP data from the AP6400 and hence AP6400 will fail.
