How to setup the Audio Plus 3200 V.2 as
a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro Compatible in Windows 95
Setup Instructions:
Windows 95 should auto-detect the Audio Plus True 3200 V.2 as a Creative
Labs Sound Blaster Pro, if, and only if, the following conditions are met:
-
The APINIT.EXE driver is being loaded in the CONFIG.SYS.
-
The sound card settings are not conflicting with any other device in the
system or driver in Windows 95.
-
You get sound from the sound card when using the DOS based testing program
supplied with the sound card. (i.e. APTEST.EXE)
-
Any Windows 3.1 sound card drivers have been removed.
The previous conditions will be met if you follow the instructions
to correctly install the software that was supplied with the sound card.
The CONFIG.SYS file should contain a line similar to:
DEVICE=C:\AP3200\APINIT.EXE /F:SB /VD:1 /VA:220 /VI:7 /GD /MD /MA:330
/MI:9 /C:P /CA:340 /CD:3 /CI:10
Note the settings of the APINIT.EXE driver in your CONFIG.SYS, particularly:
/VI:(IRQ), where IRQ is the Interupt Request setting
/VD:(DMA), where DMA is the DMA (Direct Memory Access) setting.
/VA:(ADDRESS), where ADDRESS is the address of the sound blaster
port.
Removing
Windows 3.1 sound card drivers
You can not see that a Windows 3.1 Sound Card driver is installed from
the Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Sound,video and game controllers
like you can see a Win 95 Sound Card driver.
You can see the Win 3.1 driver from the Control Panel/Multi Media.
Try removing the drivers using the following method:
-
1. Start the Control Panel.
-
2. Double-Click on MultiMedia
-
3. Click on the Advanced Tab
-
4. Highlight the Audio Devices driver
-
5. Click on the Properties button
-
6. Click on the Remove Button (To remove the driver)
-
7. Highlight the MIDI devices and Instruments driver
-
8. Click on the Properties button
-
9. Click on the Remove Button (To remove the driver)
-
10. * Highlight the Line Input Devices driver
-
11. Click on the Properties button
-
12. Click on the Remove button (To remove the driver)
* = If there is more than 1 driver listed, go threw the same steps
to remove it also.
This procedure will not remove a reference to the cmedia.386 file
from the SYSTEM.INI file. To complete the driver removal process you must
delete the following line from the [386Enh] section from the SYSTEM.INI:
If you had many different sound card drivers installed at one point, you
may also need to edit the SYSTEM.INI file and locate any remove any sections
or devices that refer to sound cards. We do not have a list of what may
be left over by other drivers, but a hint is to look for lines with multimedia
terms such as sound or look for lines that set IRQ's DMA channels and addresses
that match that of your sound card.
That should complete the removal of any older Windows 3.1 sound card
drivers from Win95.
