I installed the Audio Plus 6400 PnP 3D in a non-PnP motherboard. After installing the Win95 drivers the system was rebooted and my system hung. How do I fix this?

You can download the Win95 drivers for use with non-PnP motherboards and reinstall the drivers using this new driver, or follow the directions below:

The following line is added to the CONFIG.SYS that may be causing the problem:

device=CS4232C.EXE /A

How do I change the IRQ that the Crystal PnP Audio System Codec uses?

First,

  1. Start the Control Panel
  2. Click on System
  3. Click on the Device Manager tab
  4. Ensure that View devices by type is selected
  5. Double click on Sound, video and game controllers
  6. Double click on Crystal PnP Audio System Codec
  7. Click on the Resources tab
  8. Deselect Use automatic settings by clicking on the box next to it to remove the check mark
  9. Select Basic configuration 0001 from the setting based on menu
You can now change all DMA channels and IRQ's and address except the 0388-038B address. Change to Basic configuration 0002 if you want to change all values and reduce the number of DMA channels used to one.

To change the value:

  1. Highlight the resource you want to change and click on the Change Setting button.
  2. You can then select the resource desired and determine if Win95 reports a conflict with the setting.

How do I change the IRQ that the Crystal PnP Audio System MPU-401 Compatible driver uses?

You can change the IRQ by first deselecting Use automatic settings and then changing from Basic configuration 0000 to Basic configuration 0001. After doing this, you can change the IRQ used.

You cannot change the address used on Basic configuration 0001. If you change to Basic configuration 0002, no IRQ is used and you can change the address that is used.

How do I get sound to work in DOS games?

To get sound with the Audio Plus PnP Series using DOS games you should verify the following:

  1. Ensure that the CS4232C.EXE program is being loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file.
  2. Ensure that the CS4232C.EXE program is being loaded in the DOSSTART.BAT file.
  3. Set the game's sound card selection to Sound Blaster, Sound Blaster Pro or SB16.
Note: If SB16 fails try Sound Blaster Pro, if it fails try Sound Blaster.

If you are running in DOS mode:

  1. Ensure that the DOS CONFIG.SYS file also contains the CS4232C.EXE statement.
Note: If in Win95, the DOS CONFIG.SYS file will be named CONFIG.DOS.

Some DOS games also require that the Set Blaster statement is added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT (AUTOEXEC.DOS).

Following is the syntax to the statement:

SET BLASTER=A2x0 Iy Dz T4

x = 2 or 4 (This is the address number)
y = 5 or 7 or 9 or 10 (This is the IRQ number)
z = 0 or 1 or 3 (This is the DMA number)

Example:

If your settings are address 220, IRQ 5, DMA 1, add the following to your AUTOEXEC.BAT (AUTOEXEC.DOS):

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4

General

How do I increase the startup volume on the 6400 3D PnP?

Use the supplied DOS mixer.

A line simular to the following is put in your AUTOEXEC.BAT:

C:\AP64003D\CS32MIX /M=12 /F=12 /W=12 /C=0 /L=0 /T=0,0

Just run the CS32MIX.EXE program from DOS or in a DOS window and change the settings and click on save. This will save the changes to the AUTOEXEC.BAT. Now the volume settings will be automatically set to these values when you turn on the system.
