Modem Dip Switch and Jumper settings

The dip switch or jumper settings for Zoltrix Internal Modems can be located on the internal modem board. The settings will be silk screened,(i.e. printed), on the modem. The settings are usually printed on the side of the modem that has the components, but some models have the settings silk screened on the back side of the modem.

CAUTION: Some models list a table for the 4 Com ports that will set both the Com Port and default IRQ. For example:

Com1=3,5,6   {Default IRQ 4 selected}
Com2=4,6     {Default IRQ 3 selected}
Com3=3,5     {Default IRQ 4 selected}
Com4=4       {Default IRQ 3 selected}
In the above example, if you wanted to change the IRQ used by the modem when it is set to Com3/IRQ 4 to IRQ 5, you should not just turn on Dip switch 2 or put a jumper on pin 2. If you did this, the modem would be using Com3 and IRQ 4 and IRQ 5.

If you cannot find the settings silk screened on your modem, you can use the following list to find the correct settings for your model. You just need to know the following: The speed of your modem (i.e. 33,600 bps or 28,800 bps or 14,400 bps etc...) The number of dip switches or jumpers on the modem. Determine whether the modem has dip switches or jumpers

56,000 bps (9 IRQ jumpers, 2 Com port jumpers)

33,600 bps PnP (8 IRQ jumpers, 2 Com port jumpers, 5 PnP jumpers)

This is the first PnP modem sold by Zoltrix. This fax/Modem is set at the factory to operate in PnP mode. No adjustment is necessary if you are using Windows 95. If you are not using Windows 95 or you want to manually set the Com port and IRQ, you may disable the PnP function and set the Com Port and IRQ with the jumpers.

Locate the Jumper Blocks on your modem using the figure below and configure your Fax/Modem according to the tables below.

Dip Switches

The Dip Switches are used to select the Com Port and IRQ the modem uses. On most newer models the dip switches can be located right below where you plug in the phone lines on the jack of the modem. There is no need to remove the modem from the computer to change the Com Port or IRQ the modem uses. If you look closely, printed on the dip switch housing is an arrow pointing in the direction to turn on a switch. The usual direction to flip a switch, to turn it on, is towards the modems Printed Circuit Board.

On some older models that have dip switches, the dip switch cannot be accessed without removing the modem from the computer.

Jumpers

The Jumpers are used to select the Com Port and IRQ the modem uses. All models that have jumpers require that you remove the modem from the computer to change the Com Port or IRQ the modem is using. After removing the modem from the computer, you can locate a row of paired pins. At least pin (pair) #1 will be marked on the modem next to the pins.

A jumper is the device that you place over a pair of pins to short them together and complete the circuit. Shorting the two pins together is the same as turning on the switch.
