Using the +MS command to your advantage
The Zoltrix Rockwell based modems have a very powerful command option.
If you are having any difficulty making a connection with default settings
(&F) then the first command change you might want to look at
is the +MS command. With this command you can force a specific speed
protocol (e.g. V.32bis, V.FC, V.22bis), limit the speeds within a specific
protocol and/or leave on or turn off the Automode option.
The V.34 28,800 default in the modem is:
The V.34+ 33,600 default in the modem is:
Where 11 represents the Mode or speed protocol of V.34; 1
represents Automode ON; 300 is the minimum carrier speed; and 28800
or 33600 is the maximum carrier speed. If you leave a setting as
it is you do not need to list it in your new string.
For example, if you wanted to limit your V.34 connections to a top rate
of 24,000 bps but leave everything else at defaults you would issue the
command:
If you wanted to force your V.34 connections to connect at 28,000 bps to
33,600 bps (for V.34+ model) but leave everything else at defaults you
would issue the command:
Another example: Some customers have reported problems connecting to certain
hosts using V.34. The older Rockwell chipset that was used in the Zoltrix
FM288Si and FM288Se also support V.FC, and most of the other manufacturers
also supported V.FC, then trying that protocol is a good choice. To do
so you would use the initialization string:
The newer Rockwell chipsets have removed the old V.FC support from the
chipset, therefore the above setting is not a option.
You can read more about the +MS command in the AT Command Manual.
