Modem Driver Installation Instructions
Zoltrix Modems supported by Windows 95
There are drivers built into Windows 95 for "Rockwell chipset based" Zoltrix modems.
Following is the list of Modems supported by Windows 95:
| WINDOWS 95 DISPLAY | ZOLTRIX MODEL # | DESCRIPTION |
| Zoltrix 14.4 Data Fax Modem | FM144i | Int. HW MNP/V.42 |
| Zoltrix 14.4,144 ATI | FM144ATi | Int. RPI MNP/V.42 |
| Zoltrix 14.4,ZX144 ATI | FM144ATe | Ext. RPI MNP/V.42 |
| Zoltrix 28.8,288 SI | FM288Si & FM288i | Int. V.FC/V.34 HW MNP/V.42 |
| Zoltrix 28.8,ZX288 ACI | FM288Se & FM288e | Ext. V.FC/V.34 HW MNP/V.42 |
Windows 95 driver for Rockwell chipsets
Rockwell also has a custom Windows 95 driver, (i.e. MODEM.INF file), located on the web at the following address: http://www.zoltrix-int.com/public/modem/win95/rock_15.inf
Of special interest, the Rockwell drivers have a UNIMODEM V driver for the 28.8 V.34 Voice Fax Modem. This is the same chipset used by Zoltrix for our 28.8 V.34 Voice Fax Modem (Models: FMVOC288i & FMVOC288e).
Using the Windows 95 Standard Modem drivers
There are also drivers built into Windows 95 for Standard modems. The "Standard Modem Types" are the first on the Windows 95 list of Modem Manufactures. You may also select one of these drivers, by selecting the correct speed, in place of the Zoltrix driver. All Rockwell based Zoltrix modems should operate using the Standard Modem driver except the 33,600 bps modem. The 33,600 bps modem will also function correctly if a connection over 28,800 is not achieved (i.e. You don't connect at 31,200 or 33,600bps). The STANDARD MODEM DRIVER does not support 33,600 bps modems, and Windows 95 will basically say "HUH", when the modem responds with either:
CONNECT 33600 or CONNECT 31200
If you have an older Zoltrix 2400bps modem, you can use the standard 2,400 bps modem driver. You do not need a special driver for models that do not support error-correction and data compression.
Advantages of using the Zoltrix Driver compared to the Windows 95 Standard Modem Drivers
The main advantage to using the ZOLTRIX driver is that you will be able to control the modem using the Win95 "Advanced Connection Settings" screen to control the following:
If you knew your modems AT command set, you could INITialize the modem properly to enable or disable all the above features by adding the INITialization string in the "Extra Settings" field on the "Advanced Connection Settings" screen. But clicking on a box on the "Advanced Connection Settings" screen is much easier.
How to install the Zoltrix Windows 95 Modem driver
If you have a software modem like the FMHSP336i all these instructions do not apply. You MUST use the Com Port and modem driver made for the modem. Your modem also can not be autodetected because it is a software modem not a hardware modem.
If you already have your Zoltrix modem installed using one of Windows 95's Standard Modem Driver's, or one of the Zoltrix Drivers built into windows 95, and you know what Port the modem is set to, you should use the Manual method to install the custom driver for your model.
If you just installed the modem and you you have not installed any Windows 95 modem drivers, you may want to first use the Auto-detection method to allow Windows 95 to automatically detect, add and select the correct port the modem is using. But, if you want your modem to be auto-detected after installing the Win95 driver you must use the Manual method to install the modem driver.
Note: If installing an Internal Modem, you must first ensure that a Port has been added to Win95 that matches the settings of the modem. You may want to use the auto-detection feature to allow Windows 95 to add the correct Port to your system before adding the modem driver. Of course you must first ensure that the Port and IRQ that you set the modem to is not being used by another device in the system. For more information on determining what Ports/IRQ's are being used by your system refer to the following:

How to verify that you have installed the correct driver for your model
If your model was one of supported modems in the driver file you used, the Zoltrix model will now be auto-detected by Window 95. If you selected the incorrect model when installing the driver, the auto-detection will now detect and select the correct driver for your model.
Note: If you have a software modem like the FMHSP336i your modem can not be autodetected.
What to do if your model is not auto-detected as a Zoltrix modem
If your model is auto-detected as a Standard modem and not a Zoltrix modem at this point, you should verify the following:
Note: You MUST use Manual method to install the modem driver.
Creating a driver for a model not supported
If you followed the above procedure and your modem is still not auto-detected, you may provide Zoltrix with the file created by Windows 95 when you auto-detect your modem. The file created by Windows 95 when auto-detecting modems is named Modemdet.txt, (located in the WINDOWS directory). This file contains information that will allow us to update our driver file with the correct UNIMODEM ID for your model. With the supplied information, we can include your model into the Driver file.
Please e-mail the contents of the Modemdet.txt file to support@zoltrix.com
Then wait for a driver that supports and auto-detects your modem to be released.
How to remove older beta drivers from the Windows 95 detection
When installing a new modem driver in Windows 95. The INF driver file is copied to the Windows/Inf directory with a naming convention of (OEM0.INF, OEM1,...OEM99.INF)
To remove an older driver file, you must delete the correct OEM.INF file. To do this you should open the OEM.INF files one by one to check if it is a modem driver file written by Zoltrix. This will be indicated in one of the first few lines of the file.
