Overview

About FaxTalk Phone
FaxTalk Phone is an integrated answering machine and hands-free speakerphone application. FaxTalk Phone operates much as a standard speakerphone would except that it adds the power of full duplex support for crystal clear conversations (this feature is modem dependent). Advanced phone options include Mute, Hold (with optional music), Speed Dial numbers, and Last 20 Numbers Redial. The LCD displays incoming (with caller ID) and outgoing phone numbers, time and date, and a call timer.

The integrated voice messaging functions provide an easy to use interface for reviewing received messages and faxes. You can assign individual mailboxes with password protection to users or departments and customize greetings and mailbox settings. Advantages include:

Using FaxTalk Messenger and FaxTalk Phone

Using FaxTalk Messenger Menus, Windows, and Buttons

FaxTalk Messenger Menus
You can use any of the FaxTalk Messenger commands by clicking on a menu name to display its contents, and selecting a command. FaxTalk Messenger contains File, Edit, Modem, Configure, Mailbox, Window, and Help menus. When a menu item is unavailable for a specific window or operation, it is grayed out or dimmed.

FaxTalk Messenger uses a dynamic menuing system. This means that different menu items are available to you depending on which FaxTalk Messenger Window icon (child window) is currently active. Specific commands may also operate differently depending on which child window is open.

FaxTalk Messenger Windows
The FaxTalk Messenger application takes advantage of the Microsoft Windows MDI interface. This lets child windows be accessible from within the FaxTalk Messenger program (parent) window.

Child windows have the same conventions as the parent, but can only be accessed when the parent program window is open. The child windows are accessed by double-clicking on the associated icons that are displayed on the bottom of the FaxTalk Messenger program window.

Child windows are resized just like parent (program) windows. Move the pointer down to the border surrounding the window (thin lines that surround the outer edge of the window) and click and drag to enlarge or reduce the size of a window. Once a window has been resized, select the Window > Save Arrangement command to retain your changes.

FaxTalk Messenger Buttons
For your convenience, FaxTalk Messenger contains a button bar located under the menu bar with buttons that perform frequently used FaxTalk Messenger functions. Use these buttons instead of pulling down a menu and selecting the command. With the FaxTalk Messenger button bar you can cancel a call; receive faxes and messages manually; access the remote menu system locally; play and record messages and greetings; view, print, and send faxes; delete files, and access the FaxTalk Phone application.

You can show or hide the Button bar by using the Configure > Show Button Bar command. If you are unsure of what command a button performs, place the pointer on the button. After a brief delay, a label will pop up with a brief description of what the button does.

The FaxTalk Fax Viewer also includes buttons to perform viewer tasks quickly. For detailed information about the Viewer's buttons, please refer to Chapter 8, Fax Viewer.

FaxTalk Messenger Status Bar
To check on the status of your modem and any fax or voice activity, refer to the status bar displayed at the bottom of the FaxTalk Messenger window. You can show or hide the Status bar by using the Configure > Show Button Bar command.
