Remote Access


FaxTalk Messenger provides a comprehensive remote access menu so you can keep track of your messages and faxes no matter where you are.

Accessing Your Messages and Faxes Remotely
If you have a single-mailbox system and you want to call into your PC from a remote location, press pound
(#) password pound (#) during the greeting. If you want to access your system using a remote phone and you are using a multiple-mailbox system, you must first enter your mailbox number followed by pound (#). When your mailbox's greeting begins press pound (#) again to interrupt the greeting and then enter your password, followed by pound (#). You can listen to messages, forward faxes, and change the configuration of FaxTalk Messenger. You can also access these functions locally through the telephone handset connected to the system.

Local Access
You can access the remote access menus directly from the FaxTalk Messenger program by choosing
Modem > Local Access or clicking the Local Access button.

Remote Access Menu
The Remote Access menu provides access to remotely retrieve messages and faxes as well as change the greeting used by the mailbox and select mailbox configuration options.

Retrieving Your Messages
When you are away from your PC, you can call your system and retrieve your messages remotely. By accessing the remote menu system, you use the keys on your telephone key pad to cycle through messages that are in your mailbox.

To listen to a message remotely:

  1. Call your system, transfer to the desired mailbox (if you want to access another mailbox other than the default) and access the remote menu by pressing pound (#) during the greeting. Enter your password if passwords are enabled.
  2. Press 1 to listen to messages. Press 1 again to start with the first message in your mailbox, or press 5 to skip to the next message. Pressing 6 will return you to the previous message.
  3. As you play the message, press star (*) to stop.
  4. After each message is done playing, you can press 1 to delete the message, press 2 to save the message, press 3 to replay the message, press 5 to skip to the next message, or press pound (#) to continue to the next message and leave the file in your Mailbox.

Retrieving Your Faxes
The personal voice messaging features let you retrieve faxes by calling in to your PC and accessing a voice menu. If you are using a multiple Mailboxes enter your Mailbox number followed by the pound
(#) key. When your greeting begins, press pound (#) again to interrupt the greeting and enter your password followed by the pound (#) key. If you are using a single Mailbox, simply press the pound (#) key, then enter your password followed by the pound (#) key. FaxTalk tells you the number of new faxes you have received.

You can retrieve all of your new faxes by selecting option 2 from the remote access menu. After you select option 2, the following choices are available to you:

Press1to forward all new faxes to you. If you are calling from a fax machine or fax-equipped PC, press 1 again to begin forwarding now. FaxTalk initiates the send fax tone, and you will receive your faxes after you press "start" or "receive now" on your fax machine.

If you are not calling from a fax line, press 2 to enter the fax number where you want to receive the faxes. You are prompted to enter the number followed by the pound (#) sign. After FaxTalk Phone repeats the number to you, press 1 to accept or press 2 to reenter the number. After you accept the forwarding number, you are returned to the main menu. Press the pound (#) sign to exit and disconnect. FaxTalk dials the entered number and sends all new faxes to that location.

Press 2 to select which new faxes you want forwarded to you. As FaxTalk Phone lists descriptive information for each new fax received, press 1 to select it for forwarding or press 2 to skip to the next fax. After you have selected all the faxes you want to forward, press the pound (#) sign to finish selecting and move on. Press 1 to forward faxes to you now (if you are calling from a fax machine or fax-equipped PC), or press 2 to enter the fax number of the location where you want to receive them.

Recording a New Greeting
You can review and record a new greeting by selecting option
3 from the remote access menu. After you select option 3, the following choices are available to you:

Press 1 to listen to the current greeting selected for the mailbox.

Press 2 to record a new greeting for the mailbox. You will then hear a beep to begin recording your new greeting. When you are finished hit the star (*) key. You now have the option to Press 1 to listen to the newly recorded greeting, Press 2 to rerecord the greeting, Press 3 to activate the new greeting, or Press pound (#) to cancel and keep the original greeting.

Changing Configuration Options
The remote access menu provides the ability to change several configuration options for the FaxTalk software. These options include the number of rings the software answers with, toll saver, and notification settings.

Number of Rings
Press
1 to change number of rings. Enter the new number of rings and press pound (#).

Toll Saver
Press
2 to set Toll Saver options. To enable Toll Saver, Press 1. To disable Toll Saver, Press 2.

Voice Notification
Press
3 to set Voice Notification settings. This option only enables or disables the Voice Notification feature. To enable Voice Notification, Press 1. To disable Voice Notification, Press 2. This option only enables or disables the Voice Notification feature.

Pager Notification
Press
4 to set Pager Notification settings. This option only enables or disables the Pager Notification feature. To enable Pager Notification, Press 1. To disable Pager Notification, Press 2.

Call Transfer
Press
5 to set Call Transfer settings. This option only enables or disables the Call Transfer feature. To enable Call Transfer, Press 1. To disable Call Transfer, Press 2.
