The Fax Viewer gives you a number of tools for manipulating the fax image you are viewing. You can use the Fax Viewer to view, print, rearrange, and edit fax documents. The Fax Viewer includes the ability to use a TWAIN compliant scanner to scan in documents to add to an existing fax or create a new fax document.

These functions are available from the Fax Viewer Button bar and from the menu commands. If the Button bar is not visible, the command View > Show Button Bar enables it.
Fax Viewer Button Bar
The Fax Viewer Button Bar contains commonly used functions when dealing with faxes. In
addition, when the Annotation function is enabled there is a second Annotation Button bar
for markup functions. You can select between large and small icons on the button bars by
selecting the View > Use Large Buttons
command.
Fax Viewer Menus
You can use the Fax Viewer menu commands by pulling down the File,
View, and Markup menus from
within the Fax Viewer, and selecting a command.
Viewing Faxes
To view a fax file from the Fax Viewer, click on the Open Fax
File button on the button bar or select the File
> Open command. The Open window displays, allowing you to select the
directory where the fax files are stored.
You can also view faxes from the InBox, OutBoxor File Cabinet windows, by double-clicking on the desired entry or click on the View button located under the menu bar.
Rotating Faxes
You can select to rotate faxes displayed in the Fax Viewer. The options include rotating
the fax 90 degrees to the right or left or flipping the page 180 degrees.
Anti-Aliasing
You can use anti-aliasing to improve the readability of your faxed documents. The
anti-aliasing feature will soften the edges of the text and graphics which will improve
the readability of the fax. Anti-aliasing will only improve the fax when displayed on
screen.
Thumbnails
You can display the fax pages in a "thumbnail" or
miniture mode for easy page manipulation. To select thumbnail mode in the Fax Viewer
either click on the Thumbnail button on the
button bar or select View > Thumbnail.
Using Zoom when Viewing a Fax
When using the Fax Viewer to display a fax document you can select from a selection of
preset zoom levels or enter a custom zoom level.
The Fax Viewer has six preset zoom levels - 200%, 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, and 6.25%. A higher percentage shows more readable details, and a lower percentage shows more of the fax page on the screen. You can also set intermediate, custom zoom levels by typing the zoom level in directly.
Fit to Window displays the file as large as possible while still fitting within the window either side-to-side (Width), or top-to-bottom (Height)
To change the zoom level select either a preset level from the zoom dropdown on the button bar or type in a custom level. You can also select the Zoom, Zoom In, Zoom Out, and Fit Window (Height or Width) options from the View menu.
Reverse Video
You can enable the Reverse Video command by selecting View >
Reverse Video. This causes the Fax Viewer to display a fax as a black
image with white lettering.
Printing Faxes
Click on the Print button located on the Viewer Button bar, or select the File > Print menu command. The Print dialog opens. Select
the desired print parameters and click OK to
print the fax file.
Saving Faxes
To save a fax file click on the Save File button
or select File > Save As. Specify the
directory and filename in which you want to save the .FAX file. Note that .FAX is the only
file format supported by the viewer.
You can add keywords or comments to the file with the Options button. Enter the desired keyword or comments and click OK to return to the Save As window. Click OK to save the file. The file is stored in the File Cabinet unless otherwise specified.
Annotating Faxes
With the Fax Viewer's annotation features, you can add lines and arrows, circle pertinent
information or use other shapes, insert text using any font, and modify the annotation
colors. Once you have marked up the fax, if it is something you want to save, use the
Merge With Image command, and it saves the changes as part of the fax file. If you wish to
discard your changes, you can select the Revert to Saved
option under the File menu.
Drawing Tools
The Fax Viewer includes various drawing tools for annotating or marking up a fax. The
tools include functions for drawing lines with and withou arrows, freehand drawing,
rectangles, ovals and polygons. You can select a specific tool from the annotation tool
bar or from the Markup menu.
You can use the Color button on the annotation button bar to control the fill color and line width and color of objects.
Inserting Text Objects
You can insert text onto a fax page by selecting the Text
command from the Markup menu or by selecting the Insert Text button on
the annotation button bar. You can use the Font button
on the annotation button bar or Markup > Font command
to select the desired font type size and attributes.
Inserting Bitmaps
You can bring in a graphic file in .PCX or .BMP format using the Insert Bitmap command.
You can then save the fax file using a different name, or use the Merge
With Image command to save the bitmap as part of the existing fax.
Manipulating Fax Pages
The Fax Viewer allows you to manipulate individual fax pages in a fax document. You can
rearrange pages, delete individual pages and add additional pages to an existing fax
document.
To rearrange fax pages use the selection tool on the annotation button bar and click and drag the page you wish to move. When you have the page in the location you want it, release the mouse button to "drop" the page into it's new location.
Scanning Images
You can scan hardcopy documents into the Fax Viewer using the Scan
command from the File Menu. This gives you the ability to scan existing
documents into the Fax Viewer for editing or transmission. The Fax Viewer supports TWAIN
compliant scanners.
You can use the scanner support built into the Fax Viewer to scan and send faxes. To scan and send a fax you need to open the Fax Viewer and select File > New to create a new document and then File > Scan. This will bring up the TWAIN scanner window supplied by your scanner manufacturer. Make sure to set the scanning resolution to 200 dpi and the mode to Line Art. Select Scan to scan the page into the Fax Viewer. Once the page is scanned you can repeat the steps for additional pages (Scanners with Automatic Document Feeders will scan all pages placed in the ADF). Once you've completed the scanning of pages you need to select File > Print Setup and choose the FaxTalk printer driver. Then select File > Print. The Send a Fax dialog will then appear and at this point you can select the recepients, whether to attach a coversheet, and the send time and date. Click send to complete the send operation.
Importing Pages
The Fax Viewer supports the ability to import Bitmap files into a fax. You can import
files that are either .PCX, .BMP, or .FAX file format. Use the Import command from the
File menu to select the file you wish to import.
Exporting Pages
You can export pages from a fax file for use with other applications. The Fax Viewer
supports exporting in either .PCX, .BMP, or .FAX file format. Use the Export command under the File menu to select the file format
desired.
